Iran: 30 Set for Death Penalty, Including Children

Feb 23, 2026

Iran’s regime is once again tightening its grip through the machinery of death. According to human rights monitors, at least 30 individuals—including teenagers—now face execution following the January 2026 nationwide protests. Several were sentenced within weeks of arrest in fast-tracked Revolutionary Court proceedings. Many allegedly endured torture, forced confessions, denial of independent legal counsel, and incommunicado detention. Among those condemned are young men barely out of childhood, while at least two 17-year-olds remain on trial facing capital punishment.

The charges range from “enmity against God” (moharebeh) to alleged arson tied to protest activity. Reports describe severe beatings, broken bones, blindfolded interrogations, and threats designed to extract confessions. Families have been warned not to speak publicly. Trials have been rushed, lawyers appointed by families rejected, and verdicts handed down with alarming speed. The regime appears determined to make an example of protesters—weaponizing the death penalty not merely as punishment, but as a public warning to a restless population demanding change.
