President Donald Trump is signaling that the recently announced memorandum of understanding between the United States and Iran is far from a finalized peace agreement. Speaking alongside Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah el-Sissi at the G7 summit in France, Trump emphasized that the arrangement remains conditional and warned that military action could quickly resume if Iran fails to comply with its commitments. While the agreement is expected to be formally signed in the coming days, Trump made it clear that Washington still retains the option of renewed strikes should negotiations break down.
At the center of the agreement is Iran’s nuclear program and the reopening of the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz. Trump described the framework as a strong deal that would prevent Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons while helping restore stability to one of the world’s most important energy corridors. The Strait of Hormuz, through which a significant percentage of the world's oil shipments pass, has been a focal point of recent tensions. Trump acknowledged that prolonged disruption of the waterway could have triggered severe economic consequences worldwide, making some form of negotiated settlement necessary despite months of escalating conflict.
