A new United Nations report reveals that the Iranian regime is ramping up its surveillance technology to enforce its strict Islamic dress codes, particularly targeting women who do not comply with mandatory hijab laws. According to the report, the government has been using drones and facial recognition software to identify violators and track their movements. This comes amid a broader crackdown on dissent, especially in the wake of ongoing protests sparked by the 2022 death of Mahsa Amini, a young woman who died in police custody after being arrested for improperly wearing her hijab.

The report details how surveillance tools, once used for border security or counterterrorism, are now being weaponized against Iranian citizens (especially women) who dare to defy the regime's oppressive religious rules.
