Iran Hits Vessels After Ceasefire

Apr 22, 2026

Iran reportedly opened fire on three commercial vessels and seized two ships in the Strait of Hormuz on Wednesday, despite signals of an extended ceasefire from Donald Trump. According to the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations center, at least two vessels were targeted in rapid succession. Iranian state media later said the operations were carried out by the Revolutionary Guard, identifying two seized ships as the MSC Francesca and the Epaminodes.

British officials said one vessel was fired upon by an Iranian gunboat without warning, though Iranian outlets claimed the ship had ignored prior instructions. Additional reports stated that a third vessel, identified as the Euphoria, became involved after allegedly running aground near Iran’s coastline. Tehran has not formally accepted the ceasefire extension, and an Iranian diplomat reportedly said negotiations would not resume unless the blockade is lifted.
