Iran has taken its confrontation with the United States to a disturbing new level, with Army Commander-in-Chief Amir Hatami announcing a cash reward for anyone who kills or captures an American service member. Hatami said an Iranian who kills or captures and turns over a U.S. soldier would receive the equivalent of approximately $30,000, or five billion tomans. Even more provocatively, he announced that an Iranian woman carrying out the act would receive twice that amount. Iranian state media presented the initiative as a response to public requests to financially support such actions. Multiple outlets have independently reported Hatami's announcement, confirming that the bounty came directly from the highest levels of Iran's military leadership.
