Iran’s Islamic regime is reportedly threatening to seize the historic Saint Peter Evangelical Church, also known as Qavam Church, in Tehran, marking another escalation in its long-running campaign against the country’s Christian minority. According to reports, security officials entered the church during a gathering, identified attendees, and warned that families living on the property could soon be evicted. Authorities have already confiscated a large portion of church-owned land, transferring ownership to individuals connected to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps while warning church members they could be treated as trespassers if they enter the property.
The pressure against the church comes as reports continue to indicate growing numbers of Iranians are abandoning Islam and converting to Christianity, particularly to Protestant expressions of the faith. Analysts familiar with Iran say the regime is increasingly concerned that social unrest, economic hardship, and widespread disillusionment with the Islamic government are driving many citizens to seek hope elsewhere. While official figures are unavailable, numerous observers believe Christianity is expanding quietly beneath the surface, even as arrests of converts and restrictions on Christian activity continue to increase.
