The confrontation between the United States and Iran intensified dramatically this week as Iranian military leaders threatened to turn the Middle East “into hell” if American operations continue in and around the Strait of Hormuz. Brigadier General Majid Mousavi of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps issued the warning after U.S. forces reportedly conducted additional strikes against Iranian military targets, including surveillance systems, communications infrastructure, and air defense sites. The escalating exchange follows a series of military actions that have pushed tensions in the region to some of their highest levels in years.
Adding to the uncertainty, Iranian authorities announced the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world's most critical maritime chokepoints through which a significant percentage of global oil shipments pass each day. Iranian military officials warned that any vessels attempting to transit the waterway could become targets. However, U.S. Central Command disputed claims that the strait had been successfully shut down, maintaining that commercial shipping traffic continues to move through the region. American officials also rejected Iranian reports that U.S. naval assets had been struck, while confirming additional military operations conducted in response to what they described as ongoing Iranian aggression.
