Iran Threatens Trials of Trump, Israel

Jan 20, 2026

Iran’s ruling clerics have escalated their rhetoric as nationwide protests continue to shake the Islamic Republic. This week, Iran’s judiciary chief publicly threatened to arrest and put on trial Donald Trump and senior Israeli leaders, including Benjamin Netanyahu, accusing them of orchestrating the unrest. Rather than acknowledge the economic collapse, water shortages, and public anger fueling the demonstrations, Tehran has reverted to a familiar tactic—blaming foreign enemies and labeling internal dissent as terrorism directed from abroad.

According to Iranian officials, the protests are not a grassroots uprising but a coordinated campaign of “weapons and propaganda” allegedly supported by Washington and Jerusalem. Iran’s judiciary has vowed to pursue prosecutions in both international and domestic courts and has even demanded compensation for damage caused during the demonstrations. This narrative conveniently reframes mass public outrage as a criminal conspiracy, while absolving the regime of responsibility for inflation, currency devaluation, and decades of repression. It also signals a dangerous willingness to internationalize Iran’s internal crisis by openly threatening foreign heads of government.

Iran’s fixation on blaming Israel and the United States echoes the prophetic pattern of nations gathering in opposition to God’s purposes, particularly against Israel (Psalm 83; Zechariah 12). As internal collapse accelerates, the regime grows more belligerent externally—setting the stage for broader regional confrontation. These threats are not empty rhetoric; they are part of the prophetic momentum moving the Middle East toward the conflicts foretold in God’s Word.
