Isaiah Scroll Displayed in Full

Feb 24, 2026

For the first time since 1968, the Great Isaiah Scroll—the oldest nearly complete biblical book ever discovered—is being displayed in its entirety at the Israel Museum in Jerusalem. Stretching more than seven meters in length and dating to approximately 125 BC, the scroll was first uncovered in 1947 in a cave near Qumran alongside the Dead Sea Scrolls. Now housed in a specially designed, climate-controlled glass case, visitors can view every stitched seam, faded letter, and worn edge—evidence of a manuscript preserved through centuries before being hidden in the Judean Desert.

Composed of 17 vellum sheets carefully sewn together, the Great Isaiah Scroll mirrors the text of Isaiah found in today’s Hebrew Bible, with only minor spelling variations. Discovered by Bedouin shepherds and eventually acquired by Israel in 1954 after a journey through international hands, the scroll has long stood as one of the most powerful confirmations of the reliability of Scripture. Isaiah, quoted dozens of times in the New Testament, has been recognized by both Jewish and Christian communities as a prophetic voice pointing toward the coming of the Messiah. For decades, only a replica could be displayed publicly to preserve the fragile original. Today, under carefully controlled conditions, the full scroll once again testifies to the endurance of God’s Word.
