Recent reporting highlighted Islamic-themed patches and religious recognitions available to Muslim Girl Scouts, including programs associated with Ramadan and Jummah, the Muslim Friday prayer. Some activities reportedly involve visiting mosques, observing Islamic prayers, learning mosque etiquette, participating in Ramadan events, and studying Islamic beliefs. Girl Scouts of the USA officially encourages members to connect scouting with their individual faith traditions, and its own materials promote a “Girl Scout Jummah” while directing families toward religious organizations that administer faith-specific recognitions. These programs are not a new nationwide mandate requiring Girl Scouts to study Islam; many are administered through independent Islamic organizations and individual mosque-based troops, some of which have existed for years.
