Israel Approves 19 Jewish Communities

Dec 22, 2025

Israel’s Security Cabinet has approved the establishment and legalization of 19 Jewish communities across Judea and Samaria, marking one of the most significant settlement decisions in recent years. The move includes 11 new towns and the official recognition of eight existing neighborhoods. Among the most symbolic are Ganim and Kadim in northern Samaria, communities that were evacuated and destroyed during Israel’s 2005 disengagement. Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich described the decision as correcting a “painful injustice” and restoring these locations to Israel’s settlement map after two decades.

Smotrich noted that within the past three years alone, 69 new settlements have been legalized—an unprecedented pace—framing the policy as both moral and strategic. He argued that strengthening Jewish presence in the land of Israel’s forefathers counters the emergence of a future Palestinian terror state and reinforces Israel’s historic and national claims. As debates over sovereignty, security, and prophecy intensify, the approval of these communities underscores Israel’s determination to solidify its hold on contested biblical heartland territory, a development closely watched across the region and beyond.
