Israel Eliminates Top Iranian Officials

Mar 17, 2026

Israel confirmed Tuesday that two of Iran’s most powerful security figures were eliminated in overnight airstrikes in Tehran. Brig. Gen. Gholamreza Soleimani, commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps’ Basij militia, and Ali Larijani, Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, were both killed as Israeli forces intensified operations against Iranian regime targets. Israeli officials stated that the strikes are part of a broader effort to dismantle Iran’s strategic military infrastructure and neutralize the regime’s leadership network.

The Basij militia, commanded by Soleimani, has long served as the regime’s internal enforcement arm, suppressing protests and maintaining control over the population. Larijani, meanwhile, was considered one of the most influential figures within Iran’s security establishment and reportedly became the regime’s de facto leader following the death of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei earlier this year. Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz said the operation represents a major blow to Iran’s leadership structure and its ability to project power across the region.
