Israel: Humanity's "Common Enemy"

Feb 11, 2026

At an Al Jazeera–hosted forum, Francesca Albanese, the United Nations’ Special Rapporteur on the Palestinian territories, declared that humanity now has a “common enemy,” explicitly directing that charge toward Israel. Speaking via video link on a panel focused on the Palestinian cause in a “multipolar world,” Albanese appeared alongside figures tied to Hamas and Iran, condemning Western nations for maintaining diplomatic and military ties with the Jewish state. Her remarks accused global media of amplifying what she called a “genocidal narrative,” while simultaneously portraying Israel as a singular obstacle to global justice and freedom.

The framing was striking—not merely critical of Israeli policy, but civilizational in tone. Albanese cast the conflict as a unifying struggle for humanity itself, suggesting that international law has been “stabbed in the heart” and that fundamental freedoms are now the last tool for liberation. This language goes far beyond diplomacy or human-rights advocacy. It positions Israel not as one nation among many in a complex geopolitical conflict, but as a moral antagonist around which global consensus should form. Such rhetoric echoes a growing trend within international institutions: isolating Israel uniquely, while excusing or sidelining the actions of its adversaries.
