'One in six attacks': Israel was most targeted nation by hacktivism campaigns in first half of 2026
Israel has once again become the most targeted nation in the world for hacktivist attacks, according to Radware’s H1 2026 Global Threat Report. During the first half of the year, Israel absorbed 16% of all recorded hacktivist campaigns worldwide, totaling 784 claimed attacks. The United States ranked a distant second at 8%, followed by the United Kingdom. Researchers found that attacks surged during the recent war involving Israel, the United States, and Iran, demonstrating how quickly geopolitical conflict now spills into cyberspace. Ron Meyran, Radware’s vice president of Cyber Intelligence, said the most concerning finding was not simply that Israel remained number one, but that the gap between Israel and other targeted nations continues to widen. In the modern Middle East, the battlefield now stretches from missiles in the sky to servers, networks, databases, and critical infrastructure.
The attackers are not simply defacing websites or causing online mischief. According to Radware, infrastructure has become a major focus because disrupting essential services can create public pressure and magnify the effects of a military conflict. Government institutions accounted for 37% of targets, while manufacturing, businesses, hospitality, and the financial sector were also attacked. Hacktivists targeted internet infrastructure and major cloud providers supporting Israeli and Ukrainian networks, including systems associated with Microsoft, Amazon Web Services, and Google Cloud. Another striking finding was the ideological alignment of the attackers: 85% of claimed attacks came from a pro-Russian, anti-Western collective, with the NoName057 group alone accounting for nearly 40%. As Meyran observed, the digital arena has become inseparable from conventional warfare, allowing dozens of loosely connected groups to mobilize against a country almost instantly when conflict erupts.
