In a move that blends history, archaeology, and national identity, Israel has officially designated Route 60 as the “Biblical Highway.” Stretching from Beersheba in the south to Nazareth in the north, the ancient route follows Israel’s central mountain ridge and passes through some of the most significant locations recorded in Scripture. Israeli leaders hope the initiative will create a Route 66-style experience for tourists, students, and Bible enthusiasts while highlighting the deep historical connection between the Jewish people and the land of Israel.
The highway traces a path through many of the Bible’s most recognizable locations. Beginning in Beersheba, where Abraham is said to have taught about the one true God, the route continues through Hebron and the Cave of the Patriarchs, Bethlehem, Jerusalem, Bet El, and Shiloh. Supporters of the project argue that the Biblical Highway serves as a living testimony to the historical reliability of Scripture and counters growing efforts to disconnect the Jewish people from their ancestral homeland. Christian leaders involved in the announcement emphasized that archaeology, geography, and biblical history consistently reinforce one another, providing powerful evidence against attempts to rewrite or erase the past.
