Israel and Lebanon are set to begin a fifth round of direct talks in Washington as the United States continues its efforts to stabilize the volatile northern border and prevent another major war. Senior political and military officials from both countries will spend several days discussing border security, ceasefire arrangements, and new mechanisms designed to prevent future clashes between the IDF and Hezbollah. The meetings come amid growing international pressure to reduce tensions and create conditions for a broader regional agreement.
Despite the diplomatic setting, Israeli leaders have emphasized that negotiations will not replace national security. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Defense Minister Israel Katz, and IDF Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir jointly declared that Israel will continue targeting Hezbollah infrastructure and maintaining its security zone in southern Lebanon. Israeli officials remain deeply concerned about Hezbollah’s continued military presence near the border and insist that any long-term arrangement must address the terrorist organization’s capabilities and influence inside Lebanon. The talks therefore unfold against a backdrop of ongoing military operations and continued threats from Iran’s proxy network.
