Israel has officially reestablished its embassy in Lusaka, Zambia, after more than five decades. The reopening ceremony was attended by Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar and Zambian Foreign Minister Mulambo Haimbe, during which the two nations signed a memorandum of understanding to strengthen cooperation and bilateral relations. This move is seen as a significant milestone in renewing diplomatic engagement between the two countries.

Israel originally closed its embassy in Zambia in the 1970s, along with a broader reduction of its diplomatic missions across Africa. While Zambia has maintained an embassy in Israel since 2015, the reopening of the Israeli mission in Lusaka carries strong symbolic importance. For Israel, the move represents part of a wider strategic initiative to deepen partnerships throughout Africa, expanding its presence and influence across the continent.
