A new report from Kan News suggests Israel weighed the possibility of ceding Mount Dov and the Shebaa Farms to Syria in return for Damascus halting its claims to the Golan Heights. These contested areas, seized by Israel in 1967 and incorporated under Israeli law in 1981, are claimed by both Syria and Lebanon. Because Mount Dov does not directly border Syrian territory, such a concession would effectively create a Syrian exclave within Israel’s borders. The idea reportedly came through an American-led initiative but was shelved after massacres in Suweida, where Syrian Druze were attacked by militias and government forces. Still, sources noted the possibility of talks resuming at a later date.

Kan News further reported that Israel assessed the domestic political feasibility of such a deal, which would likely demand either a national referendum or a Knesset majority. While a Syrian government source admitted Mount Dov could eventually be tied to broader negotiations over the Golan Heights, he stressed that it was not a priority issue compared to ongoing conflicts in Jabal al-Druz. Another insider confirmed that Mount Dov is not currently on the agenda but acknowledged it could reemerge in future border discussions involving Israel, Syria, and Lebanon.
