Israeli Restaurant Vandalized in Athens

Jul 15, 2025

An Israeli kosher restaurant in Athens, Greece, was targeted in a disturbing act of vandalism Saturday night, as antisemitic attacks continue to escalate across Europe. Surveillance footage shared on social media shows a group of six individuals storming into King David Burger—an eatery that opened just a month ago—spraying black paint, hurling antisemitic slurs, and scattering hateful pamphlets. Graffiti with phrases like “No Zionist is safe here” and “All IDF soldiers are war criminals” was scrawled across the restaurant’s walls and windows, prompting a police investigation into the suspected hate crime.

The attack sparked a wave of solidarity from the local Israeli community, with many gathering outside the restaurant and singing “Am Israel Chai” in defiance. Restaurant owner Zvika Levinson has urged Greek authorities to act swiftly, warning that failure to address these rising threats could drive Israelis away from Athens. Unfortunately, police say arrests cannot be made without identifying the attackers in the footage. This incident follows a recent assault on an Israeli tourist in Athens, who was beaten after being heard speaking Hebrew. Though initially misidentified as the aggressor, the victim was later exonerated after video evidence revealed the truth. These acts are part of a disturbing trend of rising antisemitism across Europe following the October 7 Hamas attacks.
