A remarkable report is drawing attention to what some observers describe as a spiritual upheaval inside Iran. According to accounts highlighted by Christian ministries and religious freedom advocates, thousands of mosques have reportedly closed in recent years while underground Christianity continues to grow despite intense government persecution. The report claims that as many as 50,000 of Iran’s 75,000 mosques are no longer functioning, reflecting widespread disillusionment with the Islamic regime that has governed the nation since the 1979 revolution. Decades of political oppression, economic hardship, and religious control appear to have left many Iranians searching for answers beyond the state-sponsored version of Islam.
Among those sharing their stories is Mohamad Faridi, president of Iranian Christians International, who described growing up immersed in an environment dominated by fear, martyrdom, and strict Islamic indoctrination. After encountering the message of Jesus Christ through a Christian friend, Faridi ultimately left Islam and later fled Iran as a refugee. His testimony mirrors countless reports from Iranian converts who claim to have encountered Christ through dreams, visions, personal Bible study, and underground house church networks. Despite arrests, surveillance, and the constant threat of imprisonment, many believers continue meeting secretly throughout the country.
