Jewish Students Hide Identity Amid Antisemitism

Sep 17, 2025

A new global survey reveals a chilling reality for Jewish students on college campuses. Conducted by the Anti-Defamation League during the 2024–2025 academic year, the study engaged 1,727 Jewish students across more than 60 countries and six continents. Results show that 78% feel compelled to hide their Jewish identity, while 81% conceal their Zionist beliefs to avoid hostility. The data also highlights that Jewish women, more than men, feel pressure to hide both their faith (82% vs. 73%) and their support for Israel (85% vs. 75%).

The findings paint a sobering picture of fear and intimidation. Over one-third of respondents reported knowing Jewish peers who had been physically threatened, while nearly one in five said they knew someone who had been physically attacked. Marina Rosenberg of the ADL warned that Jewish students are being forced to hide fundamental aspects of who they are just to feel safe, calling the situation “nothing short of dire.” As antisemitism surges nearly two years after October 7, the report underscores an urgent need for universities to confront and address what has become a full-blown campus crisis.
