A 15-year-old Jewish boy in Colomiers, southwestern France, was recently the victim of a violent antisemitic attack after arranging to meet a girl through social media. When he arrived at the meeting location, two men ambushed him at knifepoint, forcing him into a basement where they humiliated him, recorded the assault, and later circulated the footage on TikTok. The attackers allegedly made him strip, kneel, and “beg and pray,” all while calling him a “dirty Jew” and threatening his life if he contacted authorities. One suspect has since been arrested and charged with aggravated assault motivated by religious hatred, while the investigation to apprehend the remaining assailants continues.
This disturbing incident is part of a larger surge in antisemitic violence across France, which has intensified since the October 7, 2023 Hamas-led attacks in Israel. According to the Representative Council of Jewish Institutions of France (CRIF), over 1,570 antisemitic acts were recorded in 2024—only slightly below 2023’s record total but still dramatically higher than the 436 incidents reported in 2022. Alarmingly, a report noted that 65.2% of these targeted individuals, and more than 10% involved physical violence. In just a two-week span in late May and early June, antisemitic acts rose by over 140%, signaling an ongoing and deeply troubling pattern of hate-fueled attacks against France’s Jewish community.
