More than 1,100 Jews from the United States and Canada have made aliyah to Israel during August, setting a new monthly record for North American immigration facilitated by Nefesh B’Nefesh. The surge comes despite war, regional instability, terrorism, and growing tensions surrounding the Jewish state. Approximately 2,700 North Americans have already immigrated to Israel since the beginning of 2026, and Nefesh B’Nefesh estimates that more than 4,000 could make the move before the year is over, potentially making 2026 one of its strongest years since the organization was founded in 2002. The summer alone is expected to bring more than 2,200 newcomers on nearly 100 organized flights. Rather than being driven away by Israel's uncertainty, thousands of Jews are choosing this moment to make the land their permanent home.
What makes the numbers particularly significant is who is coming. The average age of this summer's immigrants is just 29, and the wave includes approximately 480 families, 1,100 singles, 250 retirees, and around 700 children who will enter Israeli schools in September. Another 300 young adults are expected to serve in the Israel Defense Forces or National Service. They are doctors, nurses, educators, attorneys, accountants, and other professionals who are not simply relocating temporarily but putting down roots and investing their futures in Israel. While Jerusalem, Tel Aviv, Beit Shemesh, Ra’anana, and Modi’in remain popular destinations, roughly 650 newcomers are expected to settle in the Negev and Galilee. These are families arriving from New York, New Jersey, Florida, California, Texas, Canada, and communities across North America, stepping off airplanes and declaring through their actions that Israel is home.
