Jews Feel Unsafe Across Europe

Apr 21, 2026

A troubling new survey reveals that less than half of Europe’s Jewish population feels safe in their home countries, with conditions especially alarming in France. Conducted by Ipsos International Research Institute on behalf of The Jewish Agency, the poll found that only 45% of European Jews said they feel secure as Jews where they live. In France, that number dropped to just 22%, the lowest figure highlighted in the report.

The findings also showed that 43% of European Jews said they or a family member experienced antisemitism in the past year, while another 43% said they feel uncomfortable wearing Jewish symbols in public. Isaac Herzog described the report as a worrying picture of rising antisemitism and declining security. Despite the growing fear, many respondents still reported strong ties to their local Jewish communities, showing resilience even amid increasing hostility.
