Mojtaba Khamenei praises Hezbollah, calls for continued jihad, attacks against Israel
Iran’s Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei called for continued jihadist attacks against Israel, while praising the Lebanese terrorist organization Hezbollah in a series of statements attributed to him on Sunday. In the statements, which were released in response to a Hezbollah letter pledging allegiance to Iran’s Islamic Republic, Khamenei allegedly asserted that “there remains no path forward except jihad and resistance” against the US and Israel. He continued to claim that Hezbollah’s steadfast commitment to terrorism has “become an inspiring message” for those in pursuit of “liberation from global arrogance” and “divine victory.”
Turkey working to influence Israel’s upcoming elections through social media
Turkey is attempting to interfere in Israel’s upcoming election through activity on social media, senior Israeli security officials told The Jerusalem Post on Monday. According to the officials, the activity is intended to influence Israeli public opinion, disrupt the election campaign and deepen divisions between different groups within Israeli society. The officials did not provide details about the social media accounts, platforms or organizations involved. They also did not say whether the operation was being directed by the Turkish government.
Arab Telegram channels call to prepare for clashes with Israelis
Messages circulating on Palestinian Arab Telegram channels have called on residents of Shechem and surrounding villages to prepare for potential confrontations with Israelis and IDF operations following recent terrorist attacks in the area. The messages urge residents to remain alert, increase their presence on the outskirts of villages and cities, and strengthen local coordination. They call on communities to prevent what they describe as “settler herds” from entering or damaging Palestinian land and homes, while emphasizing unity as a means of deterrence.
Greece floats massive €415M biometrics, passport and ID contract
Greece has begun the process to tender a massive contract for new digital ID cards and digital government service capabilities, with a tender for a contract with an estimated worth of 415.6 million euros (roughly US$472.8 million) plus VAT. The government wants the Integrated Information Management System for Security Documents and associated services related to digital identity and authentication to be delivered in 18 months. Within three years of the completion of the main project, Greece wants 6.42 million ID1-type documents (ID cards) and 1.05 million ID3-type documents (passport booklets) produced, followed by 32.58 million ID1 documents and 7.15 million ID3 documents within the next seven years.
Eye Implant That Restores Vision to the Blind Cleared for Sale
An eye implant that can help blind people see again is poised to hit the market — in Europe, at least. The US-based Science Corporation announced that it had received approval from the European Union to treat patients with its vision-restoring bionic eye device, called Prima, in a huge step towards the commercialization of the technology. “We have a cochlear implant for vision now,” CEO Max Hodak told Stat News. Science Corp’s device is designed to treat advanced macular degeneration, a condition in the eye which causes central vision loss. It’s the leading cause of vision loss in older adults, with severe forms of it accounting for nearly 90 percent of legal blindness in the US, according to one estimate. To restore vision, the Prima device uses a wireless chip that’s surgically implanted under the retina. This connects with a pair of camera-equipped glasses, which transmits video in the form of near-infrared light that the chip turns into electrical signals interpreted by the brain.
Canada: Doctors Propose Harvesting Organs from ‘MAID’ Euthanasia Victims While Still Alive
A paper published by the New England Journal of Medicine suggested that Canada should take advantage of the bumper crop of corpses produced by its euthanasia policies and begin harvesting them for organs. Canada’s National Post reported on Thursday that the paper has caused a stir in the Canadian bioethics community because the organ-harvesting proposal might turn a horrified public away from Medical Assistance in Dying (MAID), the Canadian euthanasia program. But the proposal also follows the logic of euthanasia to its ultimate conclusion, which is if people want to die, and they have healthy organs, why not pass those organs along to people who do not want to die? The paper suggested sedating the patients and removing their organs before death is initiated, to ensure maximum freshness and quality of the organs. This notion runs afoul of Canada’s “dead donor rule” (DDR), a legal requirement that stipulates organ donors must be legally dead before their organs can be taken, so the organ removal process itself cannot be the cause of death.
Taxpayer-funded trans dolls with removable genitalia coming to classrooms this fall for kids as young as 4 to ‘learn about different options’
Taxpayer-funded transgender dolls featuring removable genitalia are set to enter Minnesota classrooms this fall, reaching children as young as 4 years old. According to a report from the New York Post, these “first-of-their-kind” paper dolls—bearing gender-neutral names such as Sam, Rory, Avery, and Parker—will allow young students to experiment with interchangeable clothing, hairstyles, accessories, and both internal and external genitals. Developed over more than six years at the University of Minnesota Medical School’s Institute for Sexual and Gender Health, the project aims to help children “learn about the different options that exist for who they can be,” in the words of one therapist involved.
Chinese scientist faces probe after girl, 6, dies ‘following experimental gene therapy’
The girl, named Mei, died days after receiving a treatment designed to correct a genetic mutation affecting her neurodevelopment in March last year, according to a report published by Science following a joint investigation with Retraction Watch, a non-profit organization that monitors retracted research. Her parents said she had suffered a fatal immune reaction linked to the treatment. The trial was led by Qiu Zilong, a neuroscientist at Shanghai Jiao Tong University’s brain center who is researching ways to adapt base editing into treatments for children with rare diseases. “Seven days after the girl’s medical team infused trillions of viruses carrying the recipe for the base editor into her spinal fluid, she died of a severe immune reaction linked to the therapy,” Science and Retraction Watch said.
China backs AI, gene editing to bolster its food security in a risky new era
Food security continues to be a top priority in Beijing’s national development strategy as the country announces a plan to reform its agricultural sector from 2026 to 2030. According to the plan, released by the State Council and cited by the SCMP, China will increase investment in research and development (R&D) and promote the application of AI, gene editing technology, and other advanced agricultural technologies to modernize production and enhance its self-sufficiency in food supply. The plan aims to increase the contribution of scientific and technological advancements to agricultural output growth to 67% by the end of the decade, an increase of approximately 3 percentage points compared to the present.
