Major California Cities Face Watery Future

Mar 11, 2025

NASA and NOAA researchers have issued a stark warning for California, indicating significant regions could be submerged due to "climate change" within the next 50 years. Their recent study reveals that cities such as Los Angeles and San Francisco face sea level rises double previous estimates, threatening millions with flooding and loss of property. Areas like San Rafael, Corte Madera, Foster City, and Bay Farm Island are particularly vulnerable due to sinking ground, amplifying the risk of submersion.

Lead researcher Marin Govorcin emphasized that subsidence, the gradual sinking of land, heightens the risk by combining with rising ocean levels, creating a dual threat. California has already spent millions combating ground subsidence since the 1960s, and costs are expected to escalate dramatically as these climate impacts accelerate. The study, published in Science Advances, underscores urgent needs for infrastructure improvements and heightened awareness about climate threats. READ MORE
