Mamdani Refuses to Condemn Violent Slogan

Jul 1, 2025

Zohran Mamdani, a self-described Muslim and democratic socialist who is now a frontrunner in New York City’s mayoral race, sparked controversy during a Meet the Press interview after refusing multiple times to condemn the inflammatory phrase “Globalize the Intifada.” The term, widely interpreted as a call for violence against Jews, has become a flashpoint amid rising antisemitic rhetoric. Despite being pressed by host Kristen Welker, Mamdani repeatedly deflected the question, avoiding a direct answer and raising serious concerns about his political alignment and ideological loyalties.

To her credit, Welker firmly and clearly framed the issue for viewers, highlighting how many see the phrase as an incitement to violence. She gave Mamdani several opportunities to distance himself from it, stating, “There’s been a lot of attention on this issue... Do you condemn that phrase?” Yet Mamdani, who has openly supported Hamas and espouses radical leftist ideals, declined to offer a clear condemnation—leaving many to question how someone with such views could be seriously considered to lead America’s largest city.
