Massacre in Syria: Christians Targeted

Jul 21, 2025

Disturbing reports have emerged from multiple trusted sources across the Arab world describing a horrific massacre unfolding in Syria. More than 1,000 members of minority communities—primarily Druze and Christians—have reportedly been brutally killed by Syrian military forces and ISIS terrorists. While some outlets have begun to report on the violence, much of the bloodshed is being overlooked, and international institutions like the United Nations and global human rights organizations have remained largely silent. The absence of a global outcry in the face of such atrocities is alarming, and Christian leaders in the region are pleading for urgent prayer and support.

Among the victims was Pastor Khaled Mezhir of the Good Shepherd Evangelical Church in Suweida, who, along with his wife, parents, and over 20 members of his family, was martyred for his faith. A former Druze who gave his life to Christ, Pastor Khaled had boldly proclaimed the Gospel despite ongoing persecution. In the wake of his death, the church in Suweida has been scattered, and survivors face devastating conditions—cut off from food, water, electricity, and communication, despite a newly declared ceasefire. One Arab pastor, writing under the protection of anonymity, has called on believers around the world to urgently pray for the surviving Christians, the safety of the remaining churches, and for the Lord’s provision and mercy in this time of unimaginable suffering. As Psalm 34:18 reminds us, “The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.”
