Authorities in Michigan are investigating a deadly attack at a Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Grand Blanc Township that left at least four people dead. Police identified the suspect as 40-year-old Thomas Jacob Sanford of Burton, who drove a truck into the building during Sunday service, set it on fire, and opened fire on worshippers. Two victims were killed by gunfire, while two others were discovered after the fire. Seven people remain hospitalized in stable condition, and one is listed as critical. Sanford, armed with what appeared to be a rifle, exchanged shots with police and was killed at the scene.

The FBI is leading the investigation, with assistance from the ATF, state, and local authorities. Church leaders described the violence as “tragic” and called for prayer, peace, and support for those impacted. Officials cautioned that additional victims may still be found as crews continue to search through the burned structure. The community, shaken by the sudden attack, is now rallying around families of the victims while investigators work to uncover Sanford’s motive.
