The mystery surrounding a series of missing scientists and laboratory employees took another unsettling turn after authorities confirmed that the remains of Melissa Casias, a missing Los Alamos National Laboratory employee, were discovered in New Mexico’s Carson National Forest. A hiker located her body in the McGaffey Ridge area alongside a handgun, but investigators have not yet determined the cause or manner of death. Casias, who disappeared in June 2025 after failing to return home from a visit with her daughter, was one of several individuals whose cases drew national attention due to possible connections with sensitive nuclear and scientific research programs.
Casias and fellow Los Alamos employee Anthony Chavez were among a growing list of missing or deceased individuals whose circumstances prompted scrutiny from both the FBI and the House Oversight Committee. The cases became the subject of widespread speculation after reports surfaced linking multiple disappearances and unexplained deaths to individuals connected with nuclear research, missile technology, and other highly sensitive government programs. The White House has reportedly reviewed several of the cases as investigators continue searching for answers. For now, officials have released few details beyond confirming the discovery and ongoing forensic examination of the remains.
