Mount Etna Erupts in Fiery Spectacle

Jun 3, 2025

Mount Etna, Europe’s most active volcano, erupted with dramatic force, launching a towering ash plume nearly four miles high and sending rivers of molten lava down its slopes. The eruption, which began with Strombolian explosions early in the morning, intensified by midday into a striking lava fountain at the Southeast Crater, as reported by Italy’s National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV).

Though aviation authorities briefly raised the alert level due to the ash cloud, it was quickly downgraded with no major impact on air travel. Local communities experienced minimal disruption, and no injuries were reported, though some tourists evacuated as a precaution. Officials continue to monitor the activity, which they say is consistent with Etna’s typical eruptive behavior.
