Netanyahu Meets Trump After Iran Operation

Jul 7, 2025

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu departed for a state visit to the United States on Sunday, where he is set to meet with President Donald Trump following the conclusion of a 12-day military operation against Iran. The visit also comes amid efforts to advance a ceasefire and secure a hostage release deal in the Gaza Strip. Netanyahu described the trip as a “great opportunity” to broaden regional diplomacy, referencing the potential for additional normalization agreements with Arab nations under the Abraham Accords framework. He emphasized the significance of U.S.-Israel cooperation, stating, “We have never had such a friend in the White House,” and credited their alliance with securing a major victory over Iran, which he described as a mutual threat to both countries.

Addressing longstanding concerns about Iran’s nuclear ambitions and regional proxies, Netanyahu praised the performance of Israeli defense forces. “For years we feared Iran’s air defenses and nuclear program,” he said, “but the IDF, the Mossad, and our entire security apparatus acted decisively—not only in Iran, but also in Lebanon and Gaza.” Highlighting operations against Hezbollah and Hamas, Netanyahu framed the recent military actions as a demonstration of Israel’s ability to confront and overcome these threats. The prime minister’s visit is expected to further solidify ties with the U.S. while exploring expanded diplomatic and security cooperation in the region.
