New Islamic Bloc Emerging?

May 29, 2026

A Saudi political analyst is making headlines after claiming that Saudi Arabia has no intention of joining the Abraham Accords and is instead pursuing a more independent regional strategy. Speaking to Russia Today TV, analyst Mubarak al-Ati argued that Riyadh’s decision to remain outside the recent conflict involving Iran, Israel, and the United States reflects a deliberate effort to position itself as an autonomous power rather than aligning closely with any side. According to al-Ati, Saudi leaders believe the global balance of power is shifting and that rising nations now have greater freedom to cultivate relationships with multiple international partners rather than depending primarily on Washington.

Al-Ati also suggested that Saudi Arabia is preparing to help lead a future “Arab-Islamic bloc” that could include countries such as Pakistan, Turkey, and Qatar. While no formal alliance has been announced, he claimed groundwork is already being laid for greater regional cooperation independent of Western influence. He further asserted that Saudi Arabia has effectively put the brakes on normalization efforts with Israel and intends to move away from the Abraham Accords framework. At the same time, he criticized President Donald Trump’s reluctance to pursue regime change in Iran, calling the president a “paper tiger” and arguing that American influence in the region is not what it once was.
