A new three-dimensional radar scan in eastern Turkey has reignited the decades-old debate over whether researchers may have located remnants connected to Noah’s Ark. The investigation centers on the Durupınar formation, a massive boat-shaped geological feature roughly 19 miles south of Mount Ararat. Researchers with Noah’s Ark Scans used advanced subsurface imaging technology and say they detected angular structures, a central corridor, and a network of spaces extending as deep as approximately 20 feet underground. Perhaps most intriguing, the researchers say the anomalies appear arranged across three levels, reminiscent of Genesis 6:16, which describes Noah’s Ark as having lower, second, and third decks. The formation itself measures approximately 515 feet long—a figure researchers argue corresponds closely with the 300-cubit length given for the Ark in Genesis 6:15.
Additional findings have only added fuel to the controversy. Researchers previously reported that soil samples from within the formation contained significantly higher concentrations of organic material than surrounding areas, along with elevated potassium levels they suggest could potentially be consistent with the decomposition of ancient wood. Still, major questions remain. Most geologists regard Durupınar as a natural geological formation produced through processes such as rock folding, mudflow, and erosion, and the latest findings have not yet been published in peer-reviewed scientific literature. No wooden beams, fasteners, tools, or other indisputable human-made artifacts have been recovered. There is even a biblical question surrounding the site's pointed, ship-like appearance, since the Hebrew tevah described in Genesis is generally understood as more of a large box or vessel than a conventional ship. The research team itself acknowledges that radar anomalies are not proof and plans core drilling, physical sampling, and robotic-camera exploration of suspected underground spaces.
