New Tech Hunts Covenant Ark

Apr 22, 2026

Archaeologists say a fresh search is underway for the long-lost Ark of the Covenant, with new theories pointing to underground chambers near the City of David just south of the Temple Mount. According to the Bible, the Ark was built after the Israelites left Egypt and housed the Ten Commandments placed inside by Moses. Historians believe it was once kept in the Holy of Holies before disappearing during the Babylonian destruction of Jerusalem in 586 BC.

Archaeologist Dr. Chris McKinny has suggested the Ark may remain hidden in subterranean spaces beneath ancient Jerusalem. Researchers are using muon detectors, advanced instruments that track cosmic-ray particles to identify hidden cavities and buried metal without excavation. Early scans have reportedly revealed unknown voids and structures beneath the landscape, fueling renewed speculation. If surveys eventually extend beneath the Temple Mount, some believe the Ark could be detected because ancient descriptions say it was overlaid with gold.
