Therefore let us not sleep, as others do, but let us watch and be sober.

Israeli officials reacted with outrage and concern Wednesday after New York State Assemblyman Zohran Mamdani—an outspoken critic of Israel—was elected mayor of New York City. Mamdani, who has publicly supported the Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS) movement and refused to denounce calls to “globalize the intifada,” vowed during his campaign to have Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu arrested if he ever visited the city. His victory, hailed by progressive activists in the U.S., sent shockwaves through Israel’s political establishment. National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir condemned the result, declaring that “antisemitism triumphed” and accusing Mamdani of being “a supporter of Hamas, a hater of Israel, and an avowed antisemite.”
Opposition leader Avigdor Liberman wrote on X, “The Big Apple has fallen,” calling Mamdani “the poster child of the quiet jihad.” Deputy Foreign Minister Sharren Haskel expressed measured concern, warning that the new mayor’s record of inflammatory statements could embolden anti-Israel sentiment abroad. For many prophecy watchers, the symbolic fall of one of America’s most influential cities to an openly anti-Israel politician is more than political—it reflects a growing global hostility toward God’s chosen people. Scripture foretold that in the last days “all nations” would turn against Israel (Zechariah 12:3), yet even now, believers are reminded that God’s covenant with Israel remains unbroken. The world may abandon Jerusalem, but the Lord never will.
