Numbers Station Signals Amid Iran Conflict

Mar 24, 2026

Amid escalating tensions between the United States, Israel, and Iran, a mysterious shortwave “numbers station” broadcast has emerged, transmitting coded messages in Persian across global airwaves. First detected at the onset of the conflict, the signal repeats twice daily, featuring a voice calling out “Attention!” followed by long sequences of numbers. Analysts have traced the transmission to a U.S. military facility in Germany, yet its exact purpose—and intended recipients—remain unknown. The format closely resembles Cold War-era intelligence broadcasts used to communicate with covert operatives.

Experts believe these transmissions are likely part of a covert communications system, possibly directing intelligence assets or relaying encrypted instructions during a time of heightened military activity. The fact that radio jammers have attempted to block the signal, only for it to shift frequencies, underscores its importance and operational relevance. In an era dominated by digital communication, the resurgence of analog methods like shortwave radio highlights the enduring need for secure, untraceable channels during times of war and uncertainty.
