After more than three months of escalating conflict, the United States and Iran have reportedly reached a peace agreement that both sides describe as bringing an “immediate and permanent” end to military operations throughout the region. Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced that the deal had been finalized and revealed that an official signing ceremony is scheduled to take place in Switzerland on June 19. President Donald Trump quickly confirmed the announcement, declaring that the agreement was complete and authorizing the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz while ending the U.S. naval blockade that had become a focal point of regional tensions.
The agreement appears to extend beyond the direct conflict between Washington and Tehran. According to statements from both Pakistan and Iranian officials, military operations are expected to cease across all fronts, including Lebanon, where tensions involving Iran-backed Hezbollah had threatened to derail negotiations only hours before the announcement. Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi described the accord as an immediate end to the war, while Pakistan credited mediation efforts supported by Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and Turkey for helping bring the parties together. The reopening of one of the world's most important energy corridors could also have major implications for global markets and international shipping.
