In labs around the world, scientists are experimenting with some of the most dangerous pathogens known to man—sometimes even enhancing their infectiousness and lethality. The terrifying reality is that it wouldn't take a massive military or terrorist organization to unleash chaos; a small group with the right knowledge and intent could easily release a bioengineered disease in a populated area, triggering a nationwide or even global catastrophe. Unlike conventional weapons, a highly contagious pathogen could spread silently, killing millions and destabilizing entire societies in ways that no bomb ever could.
Meanwhile, international authorities like the World Health Organization are preparing for future pandemics by consolidating power. This week, the WHO adopted a sweeping "pandemic agreement" without U.S. support, aiming to increase global surveillance and coordination. While framed as a move toward equity and preparedness, critics argue that it grants excessive power to an unelected body that failed to adequately respond during COVID-19. U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services Robert F. Kennedy Jr. criticized the agreement, saying it “locks in dysfunction” and ignores the WHO’s past failures.
Prophetically speaking, the Bible forewarns of these times. Jesus Himself spoke of multiple “pestilences” as signs of the last days (Matthew 24:7; Luke 21:11). The book of Revelation paints an even grimmer picture: one-fourth of the world’s population will perish during the early judgments (Revelation 6:8), with pestilence playing a key role. While society remains largely distracted and unprepared, Scripture calls us to remain watchful and ready. The next global outbreak is not a matter of if, but when. And when it comes, it will test the world in ways we’ve never experienced before.
