Planet Shaking Unusually Hard

Sep 19, 2025

Have you noticed how much the earth has been shaking lately? The massive 7.8 earthquake that just struck Russia’s Kamchatka peninsula is only one of nearly half a million quakes recorded so far this year—466,742 in total. At the same time, dozens of volcanoes are erupting and strange signs are appearing in the heavens. To dismiss this as “normal” is to ignore just how unusual and intense these events have become. Earlier this summer, for example, 494 earthquakes of magnitude 5.0 or greater struck within just 30 days—far above the usual monthly average of 110 to 125. The Pacific Ring of Fire remains the most active, unleashing a steady wave of quakes and eruptions that shake entire regions.

The Kamchatka quake sparked initial fears of a tsunami for Hawaii and the U.S. West Coast, though thankfully no Pacific-wide threat materialized. Still, the quake produced more than 30 strong aftershocks in its wake, serving as a reminder that such events can escalate quickly. Just days before, powerful tremors also rattled Alaska’s Aleutian Islands, raising fresh tsunami concerns for coastal residents. The earth seems to be groaning with increasing intensity—each new quake another warning that creation itself is restless. Whether seen through the lens of science or prophecy, the signs are multiplying, and the question is whether we are paying attention.
