Therefore let us not sleep, as others do, but let us watch and be sober.

A new government report has revealed that Quebec now holds the highest euthanasia rate on earth, with 7.4% of all provincial deaths coming from Canada’s Medical Assistance in Dying (MAiD) program. The 2024–2025 Commission on End-of-Life Care report shows a 9% increase from last year—an explosive rise for a system originally marketed as a “rare and compassionate option.” But the most tragic revelation isn’t the numbers. It’s the reasons. Half of all MAiD requests came from people who felt they were a burden to their families, friends, or caregivers. Nearly a quarter cited loneliness and isolation as their motivation to die. This isn’t mercy—it’s abandonment. A society that encourages the lonely, elderly, and suffering to choose death is a society that has completely lost its moral compass. In some cases, the report admits, lethal injections were administered the same day a request was made. That’s not care. That’s convenience.
Even more disturbing, the commission confesses it has no tools to measure whether palliative care is meeting the needs of the dying—meaning they cannot determine whether people were pushed toward MAiD because better options weren’t available. Yet despite acknowledging these gaping failures, the report refuses to call for a halt to the practice. This is what happens when a culture rejects God, devalues human life, and replaces compassion with efficiency. Prophecy warns that in the last days, society will grow cold, cruel, and devoid of natural affection (2 Timothy 3:1–5). Quebec’s euthanasia crisis is not merely a medical issue—it’s a spiritual one. It is a grim preview of a world increasingly conditioned to see death as a solution, not life as a gift.
