Therefore let us not sleep, as others do, but let us watch and be sober.

Speaking at the One Young World Summit in Munich, Jordan’s Queen Rania ignited controversy after appearing to equate Israel’s treatment of Palestinians with Nazi Germany’s dehumanization of Jews. Addressing an audience of young leaders, Rania warned that “dehumanizing speech” is the starting point for mass atrocities, citing historical examples from Nazi Germany, Rwanda, and Myanmar. She referenced Israel’s 2023 military response to Hamas’s October 7 attack, quoting then–Defense Minister Yoav Gallant’s comment describing the enemy as “human animals.” Rania said, “He was operating from a time-tested playbook: convince the public you are dealing with beasts, and violence becomes not just acceptable, but necessary.”
Rania’s remarks have drawn sharp reactions from Israeli officials and commentators who insist Gallant’s words were directed at Hamas terrorists—not Gaza’s civilian population. The IDF has repeatedly stated that its military campaign targets the perpetrators of the October 7 massacre, in which 1,200 Israelis were murdered and hundreds kidnapped. Still, Rania’s comments reflect a growing international narrative that frames Israel’s actions in moral and historical terms, invoking powerful analogies that blur distinctions between self-defense and aggression. For Bible prophecy watchers, the intensifying global condemnation of Israel aligns with Zechariah 12:3—where Jerusalem becomes a “burdensome stone” to all nations, foreshadowing the world’s gathering hostility toward God’s chosen people.
