Queer Bible Course Offered at Richmond

Mar 24, 2025

The University of Richmond is now offering a controversial course titled “Reading the Queer Bible,” which explores LGBTQ+ interpretations of biblical texts. According to the course description, students will study passages that allegedly involve “same-sex love, gender nonconformity, and sex work,” and will analyze them through a modern queer lens. The class is designed to discuss the Bible not just as a religious document, but also as a “source of pleasure and identity” for queer individuals.

Campus Reform reported that the course encourages students to see Scripture as “inherently strange,” questioning how gender and sexuality are portrayed in biblical narratives. The course syllabus emphasizes discussion of biblical characters such as Joseph and David, who are interpreted by some scholars in queer theory as exhibiting non-traditional gender or sexual expressions. The university’s website promotes the course as part of a broader initiative to support inclusive and diverse academic inquiry.

This course reflects a growing trend of redefining Scripture through the lens of "contemporary ideologies." Romans 1:25 warns of those who “exchanged the truth of God for a lie,” and 2 Timothy 4:3-4 speaks of a time when people “will not endure sound doctrine, but... will turn away their ears from the truth.” Attempting to reinterpret Scripture to align with modern sexual ethics not only distorts its divine intent but also undermines the authority of God’s Word. These developments serve as a sobering reminder of the cultural and moral drift occurring in the last days. READ MORE
