Rabbis Urge New York Jews to Return to Israel After Mamdani Victory
In the wake of anti-Israel politician Zohran Mamdani’s election as New York City mayor, the Tzohar Rabbinical Organization issued an open letter calling on Jewish residents of New York to “renew reflection” on their connection to Israel—and even consider returning home. The group of Orthodox rabbis, known for their outreach efforts, urged Jewish communities to strengthen their identity “in light of the growing antisemitic discourse” now gripping the city. “We cannot stand idly by while hatred of Jews continues to grow,” the letter declared, warning that Jewish symbols and public expressions of faith are increasingly met with hostility. While Tzohar clarified that it was not urging Jews to flee in fear, it did describe aliyah—the immigration of Jews to Israel—as both a spiritual and prophetic calling for this generation.
This call to return to the Land of Israel is a powerful reminder that God’s covenant promises are unfolding in real time. Scripture foretold that in the last days, He would “bring them back into their land” from the nations where they were scattered (Ezekiel 36:24; Jeremiah 30:3). The growing antisemitism in Western nations—especially in cities like New York—appears to be driving a divine migration back to Israel, setting the stage for the final chapters of biblical prophecy. As hostility rises, God is gathering His people home, fulfilling His word before the eyes of the world.
