Rabbis Issue Jerusalem Warning

As Israel prepares to celebrate Jerusalem Day, a group of prominent Zionist rabbis issued a public call urging participants in the annual Flag March to conduct themselves with restraint, dignity, and unity amid growing tensions surrounding the event. In an open letter addressed to students and celebrants, the rabbis described the current generation as witnesses to the fulfillment of prophetic visions concerning Israel’s restoration and Jerusalem’s significance. They emphasized that the annual march through the streets of Jerusalem is meant to be an expression of gratitude, national identity, and loyalty to the Jewish people’s eternal connection to the city. At the same time, they warned participants not to be drawn into violence or provocations that could tarnish the spiritual importance of the day.

The rabbis specifically highlighted the importance of maintaining self-control during the traditional Flag March, an event that has increasingly become a focal point for political and religious tensions in the city. They described true strength not as aggression, but as the ability to walk through Jerusalem with spiritual discipline and respect while honoring the sacrifices of Israel’s security forces. The letter called on marchers to avoid any behavior that could desecrate the holiness of the occasion or inflame already heightened tensions. Jerusalem Mayor Moshe Lion also voiced support for a peaceful celebration, stressing the importance of unity, public order, and appreciation for those protecting the city during a volatile time.
