Red Heifer Claims Fuel Israel Controversy

Mar 19, 2026

A new controversy has erupted after media figure Candace Owens promoted claims tied to what critics identify as a modern form of the ancient “blood libel,” invoking language such as “Red Heifer War” and the phrase “Goyim stand down.” The term “goyim” is a Hebrew word meaning “nations” or “Gentiles,” but in this context it is being used in a derogatory and conspiratorial way—suggesting that non-Jews are being manipulated into serving Jewish interests. Owens’ remarks referenced the biblical concept of the red heifer, an animal described in Numbers 19 used in ancient Israel for ritual purification, but reframed it as part of a supposed hidden agenda driving modern geopolitical conflict.

The red heifer holds genuine biblical significance, particularly in discussions surrounding the purification rites connected to the Temple. In recent years, interest in red heifers has increased due to their potential role in preparations for a future Temple in Jerusalem. However, claims that Israel is orchestrating wars for ritualistic purposes distort both Scripture and reality, echoing long-standing antisemitic narratives historically used to incite hatred against the Jewish people. Critics warn that such rhetoric, especially when amplified on major platforms, risks normalizing conspiracy theories that have fueled persecution throughout history.
