Report: Strait of Hormuz Could Remain Closed

Mar 31, 2026

Reports indicate that President Donald Trump is open to ending the ongoing military campaign against Iran—even if the critical Strait of Hormuz remains largely closed. This narrow passageway carries roughly 20% of the world’s oil supply, making it one of the most vital economic chokepoints on the planet. At the same time, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has suggested alternative long-term solutions, including rerouting energy pipelines to bypass Iran’s strategic control over the region.

The situation highlights the fragile balance of global energy security and the increasing tension in the Middle East. A closure of the Strait has already sent shockwaves through global markets, raising concerns about supply shortages and economic instability. While leaders explore diplomatic and logistical solutions, the reality remains that control over resources—especially oil—continues to be a driving force behind geopolitical conflict. The ability to restrict or redirect energy flow gives nations immense leverage, further complicating efforts toward peace.
