Rise of the Transhumans: Humanity’s Divide

Jun 11, 2025

Wealthy tech investor and futurist Herbert Sim has ignited controversy by claiming that within the next five years, a new race of "transhumans" could emerge—engineered superhumans created through advanced technology and genetic modification. Sim’s startup is focused on upgrading the human brain using a device that reads brainwaves, all in pursuit of extending human life for centuries. He argues that humanity stands at a technological crossroads where the integration of AI and biotechnology is no longer science fiction but an inevitable part of human evolution. According to Sim, this transformation could lead to what he calls “superpowers” for those who embrace it—but he warns that those who resist will become obsolete in a new social order dominated by enhanced humans.

Sim is not alone in his thinking. Other transhumanists, like Zoltan Istvan, predict that by the year 2100, humans will become cyborg-like beings with downloadable brains, frequenting body shops to upgrade their capabilities. Istvan warns that as AI surpasses human intelligence—potentially by millions of times—it will dominate unless humanity merges with it. Both men foresee a troubling future where society splits in two: the elite enhanced transhumans who thrive in a tech-driven utopia, and the unmodified masses who struggle in a dystopian world. What they present as “redemption” may, in fact, mark the end of humanity as we know it—raising deep ethical, spiritual, and prophetic concerns.
