Rising Occult Practices

Sep 5, 2025

A six-year-old girl from Saldanha Bay, South Africa—widely recognized for her striking blue eyes—vanished in February 2024, prompting nationwide searches and headlines. Investigators later uncovered a far darker story: her mother and three accomplices were arrested and convicted for trafficking the child to a traditional healer for a ritual killing, allegedly selling her for her eyes and skin. Her body has never been found. While shocking, the case reflects a broader pattern: across parts of Africa, South Asia, Latin America, and within some diaspora communities, ritual killings persist—driven by the belief that human body parts confer power, protection, wealth, or influence.

This growing fascination with ritual and occult practices is part of a global trend. While witchcraft and ritual killings have long been embedded in cultures across Africa, the Caribbean, and Latin America, the West is now being subtly conditioned to embrace similar darkness. Through media, entertainment, and even education, young people are increasingly exposed to spell books, divination, and courses on casting spells—practices Scripture condemns as detestable (Deuteronomy 18:10–12). What once seemed distant is now normalized, aligning with biblical warnings that in the last days lawlessness will increase and people will call evil good (Isaiah 5:20; Matthew 24:12). These developments remind believers to remain alert, defend the vulnerable (Proverbs 24:11–12), and shine the light of Christ against a world being prepared to embrace deception and darkness.
