Lines, Senior Minister at University Christian Church in San Diego, recently exemplified this tragedy with a Robocop-themed sermon—yes, Robocop—intended as a protest against what he called the "militarization" of immigration enforcement. Donning a costume, Lines mocked the rule of law and championed illegal immigration as if biblical compassion requires lawlessness. This wasn't satire or parody—it was a real pastor in a real pulpit turning sacred truth into a spectacle, using theatrics to distort the message of Christ.
Lines, a minister in the United Church of Christ—a denomination long detached from biblical authority—has a record of theological rebellion. He openly supports abortion, affirms LGBTQ ideology, and rejects the divine inspiration of Scripture. He’s denied Christ’s atoning death and recast Jesus as needing moral correction. His teachings are not just misguided; they are a full-scale inversion of the gospel. Scripture declares that God loves justice and righteousness (Psalm 33:5), and civil government exists to uphold order (Romans 13). Yet Lines elevates cultural affirmation over biblical truth, compassion without justice, and mercy without repentance. His robotic performance may have drawn applause from the world, but it was an insult to the gospel and a danger to the Church. Now is the time for Christians to stand firm, call out false teachers, and return to truth—no matter the cost.
